Hartley Vale

Hartley Vale is a quiet rural area, just down the forested ridges of the western Blue Mountains. It is great beauty and historical significance. In the old days it was a buzzing township on the highway, but the highway has been long since diverted.... Kerosene shale was mined for a while early last century. Reminders of those days are the Comet Inn and Collits Cemetery, the latter is important for its historic associations with the first settlement west of the Blue Mountains. There are several beautiful as well as interesting walks to do along historic roads and railways. Bird and wildlife is diverse. There is even a rumour that the Eastern Quoll has been spotted, for what it is worth....
