Mount Augustus or Burringurrah National Park

Mount Augustus or Burringurrah is the largest monolith in the world. Not that we care much about that fact, we just like it because it's beautiful.
I guess that there are about three major ways of getting to Mount Augustus. From the coast, one must go inland near Carnarvon, via the Gascoyne Junction. From the South-East, one can reach Mount Augustus from Meekatharra, which itself lies on the Northern Highway, from Perth to Broome via the inland route. And last (and maybe least as well) you can get there from Tom Price, which is quite a scenic road. All roads are dirt roads, so always make sure that you know what the weather forecast is, and be well prepared for these kind of roads.
Mount Augustus rises 715 metres out of its surrounding landscape, which consists of red arid shrubland with wattles, cassias and tall mulla mullas. You can go around the rock: there's a drive of 49 kilometres around it. Close to the mountain, there's the Mount Augustus resort, which, unlike the one near Ayers Rock, is low key and a pleasure to be.

It's a long way away from most places, but definitively worth going there!
